A short, plain-English explanation of what data LocalMOT collects, why, and how we keep it safe.
What we collect
LocalMOT is a public directory. You can browse it without giving us any personal information. We do not require an account, an email address, or a sign-up.
When you visit the site, our hosting infrastructure logs basic technical data (IP address, browser type, the pages you viewed). This is standard for any website and is used only to keep the service running, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to understand which pages people visit so we can make the site better. These fall into two categories:
- Strictly necessary: required for the site to function. No consent needed under UK law.
- Analytics: aggregate, anonymised page-view data. Only set after you accept the cookie banner.
We may add display advertising in future. If we do, we will update this page and the cookie banner before any advertising cookies are set.
Third parties
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with marketers. Third parties that help run the site (hosting provider, analytics provider) only see what they need to do their job, and are bound by their own privacy obligations.
Outbound links
When you click a link to a garage's own website, you leave LocalMOT and the destination's privacy policy applies, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to see what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. Since LocalMOT does not require accounts, we generally do not hold any personally-identifying data on visitors. If you have a question, email and we will respond within 30 days.
Updates
If this policy changes meaningfully, we will say so on this page with the date of the update.
